Homework Help

Sometimes Amelia will "help" me with my homework. I was trying to finish a quiz on transcription and translation of DNA and having a very difficult time (who WOULDN'T?). I finally finished my quiz and hestitantly submitted it. I closed my eyes while I waited for the grade and heard Amelia say, "Okay, it's grading it....it's grading it...I'm sure you did great, Mom....it's grading it...it's DONE!" Then in a very quiet voice she said, "Ohhhhhhh...". I looked at the screen.

I had gotten a D-.

I dropped my head in my hands and Amelia put her hand on my back and said, "I don't know what to tell you, Mom....I always get A's."

Sometimes the Music Just Moves Ya...

Cooper was eating lunch at the table and I started the theme from "Pirates of the Caribbean". This is what happened:

(Yes, I know he's too old for a sippy cup, but if you'll notice what happens around 25 seconds in, you'll see why I still use it)!

St. Paddy's Day 2012!

Top 'o the morning to ya! I love St. Patrick's Day even though I'm about as English/Welsh/Scottish as you can get. We had a very full day; here are some of the things we did on this Irish holiday:

Ate green pancakes with green milk for breakfast (Cooper still has trouble with the flash and blinking):

We dressed in green so no pinching was needed:

Went bowling and played some arcade games:

We played with our "forehead flashlights" and red satin purse:

Made delicious green milkshakes:

Rode our bikes to the park during the 45 minutes of sun we had:

Had some reading time:

And generally had a happy, happy St. Patrick's Day:

May your blessings outnumber,
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go!

Amelia's New Skill

Amelia occasionally drives me a little crazy with the "What can we do now?"'s. Friday was one of those days, so when she asked me for the 2,122nd time, our conversation went like this:

J: You can make cookies by yourself when we get home!
(Amelia was really quiet): Are you sure you want me to?
J: Yes.
A: By myself?
J: Yes.
A: Will you watch me?
J: Yes.
A: Are you sure that's what you want me to do?
J: Yes.

We got home and I set up the KitchenAid, brought out a step stool for her, got down all the ingredients and handed her the recipe.

A: Now, you're sure you want me to make the cookies.....all by myself?
J: YES.

So she did.

In other news, Amelia went to the dentist on Wednesday (just a check-up, so no screaming) and has no cavities! She does have two teeth that need to come out so spacers can go in. The dentist said he could pull them, or she could do it at home. Amelia vehemently promised she'd do it. The dentist said he wanted one out that night, and the other by the weekend.

Both teeth are still in.

Cooper is rockin' preschool and gymnastics and doing everything he can to "be a five-year old", so he's ready for his birthday in a month. This sometimes includes being "awesome".

Cooper logic

We were driving on the highway the other day and I may have been exceeding the speed limit just a teeny tiny bit. I saw flashing lights behind me and a state trooper coming up FAST. I alerted the kids and two heads whipped around to watch the car quickly approaching. I steeled myself to be pulled over when the trooper blew past me. He picked up a car with California plates ahead of me that was going more than a teeny tiny bit over the speed limit.

As we drove past I said in a sing-song voice, "Someone's getting a tiiiicket." (Yes, my smugness returned when I wasn't the one being pulled over).

Cooper said, "The man is getting a ticket? Now he can go to a movie!"
